Chat Editing in Draftly: Making Site Changes with Conversation

Once your site is generated, you're not done — you're starting. Chat editing is how you take the initial generation and shape it into exactly what you need.

How Chat Editing Works

Chat editing is a conversation with the AI about your existing site. Each message you send describes a change, and the AI applies it surgically to your site code without regenerating the whole thing.

This means:

• Changes are fast (10-30 seconds vs 60-90 seconds for full regeneration)


• Credits used are much lower (fraction of a full generation)


• The parts of the site you didn't touch stay exactly as they were

Writing Effective Edit Instructions

The more specific your instruction, the better the result.

Vague: "Make the hero better"
Specific: "In the hero section, change the headline to 'Crafted in India, Made to Last' and make the CTA button say 'Shop the Collection'"

Vague: "Change the colors"
Specific: "Change the primary color scheme to deep forest green (#1a3a2a) with gold accents — apply to the header background, CTA buttons, and section dividers"

Vague: "Add more content"
Specific: "Add a testimonials section with 3 customer quotes after the features section. Use this content: [paste your testimonials]"

Types of Changes Chat Editing Handles Well

Text changes: Headlines, body copy, CTA text, labels — all straightforward.

Style changes: Colors, typography, spacing, borders — very reliable. Be specific about what you want.

Section additions: "Add a FAQ section with these questions" or "Add a pricing table with three tiers" — works well when you provide the content.

Section removal: "Remove the features section" — simple and reliable.

Layout changes: "Move the testimonials section before the pricing section" — generally works, sometimes needs a second instruction to clean up.

Animation adjustments: "Make the hero section entrance more dramatic" or "Remove the animation from the navigation" — works but may need iteration.

Version History

Every chat edit automatically creates a version snapshot before applying. If a change doesn't work out the way you expected, click Restore on any previous version in the History tab to roll back.

Versions are labeled with the chat message that created them, so it's easy to find the right restore point.

What Chat Editing Can't Do

Some requests require full regeneration rather than an edit:

• Complete visual style overhaul ("make it look completely different")


• Changing the fundamental layout from single-page to multi-page


• Starting from scratch with a new concept

Multi-Step Editing Strategies

Complex changes often work better as a sequence of simpler steps:

Instead of: "Make it a luxury brand with a dark theme, gold accents, serif typography, and more cinematic animations"

Try:

• "Change the color scheme to deep black (#0a0a0a) background with gold (#c9a84c) accents"


• "Change the headline font to Playfair Display and body font to Inter"


• "Make the hero section more cinematic — add depth parallax and a more dramatic entrance animation"
