How to Build a 6-Month Content Calendar for SEO

Publishing 12 random blog posts is almost worthless for SEO. Publishing 12 posts that cluster around 3 topic pillars is very powerful.

The Pillar-Cluster Model

Pillar pages: Comprehensive guides on broad topics. Long, authoritative, targets head keywords.

Cluster pages: Specific posts that answer related long-tail questions. Each links back to the pillar.

Example (for a CA firm):

  • Pillar: 'Complete Guide to GST for Indian Businesses'

  • Clusters: 'GST for freelancers', 'GST for e-commerce sellers', 'Reverse charge mechanism explained', 'GST reconciliation process'

Month 1-2: Pillar Content

Create 2-3 pillar pages first. These are your anchors. 2,000+ words each.

Month 3-6: Cluster Content

Publish 2-3 cluster articles per month, all linking to relevant pillars.

Keyword Research Template

For each post, define:

  • Primary keyword (1)

  • Secondary keywords (3-5)

  • Search intent: informational / navigational / commercial / transactional

  • Target word count

  • Internal links (to and from)

What to Prioritise

  • High commercial intent + low competition first
  • Seasonal content 8-10 weeks before the season
  • Competitor gap analysis — topics they rank for, you don't

Consistency Over Volume

2 solid posts per month beats 8 rushed ones. Google rewards consistency and quality over frequency.
