How to Embed YouTube or Vimeo Videos in Your Draftly Site

Video is the highest-converting content format on the web. A well-placed product demo, founder story, or testimonial video can dramatically increase the time visitors spend on your site — and increase conversion rates. Draftly makes it straightforward to embed video from any platform without slowing down your page.

Where to Place Video on Your Site

Before embedding, decide where the video serves your visitor best:

  • Hero section — a short brand film or product overview (under 90 seconds) as the first thing visitors see
  • Product/service section — a demo or explainer video that walks through your offer
  • Testimonials section — video testimonials outperform text testimonials by a significant margin
  • About section — a founder story or team introduction
  • FAQ section — a short video answer alongside the text answer

Embedding a YouTube Video

  • On YouTube, click Share → Embed and copy the embed URL (it looks like `https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID`)
  • In Draftly, click on any section that supports media content
  • Open the Media panel in the right sidebar
  • Select Video Embed and paste the YouTube embed URL
  • Set the aspect ratio (16:9 for landscape video, 9:16 for vertical/Reels-style content)
Draftly loads YouTube embeds lazily — the iframe is not loaded until the user interacts with that part of the page. This prevents the YouTube embed from slowing down your initial page load.

Embedding a Vimeo Video

The process for Vimeo is identical. From Vimeo, click Share → Embed and copy the URL in the format `https://player.vimeo.com/video/VIDEO_ID`. Paste it into the same Video Embed field in Draftly.

Vimeo Pro users can enable autoplay, loop, and hide the Vimeo branding — all of these settings are respected when embedded in Draftly.

Autoplay Considerations

Browsers require videos to be muted before they can autoplay. If you want a video to play automatically when a section scrolls into view:

  • Enable Autoplay in the video settings
  • Enable Mute on autoplay (this is required by all browsers)
  • Enable Loop if you want the video to repeat
Autoplay works best for background-style brand videos without dialogue. For testimonial or demo videos where the audio matters, leave autoplay off and let the user choose when to play.

Using Video as a Hero Background

For a full-width video background in the hero section, use Draftly's Motion Pass feature instead of a standard embed. Motion Pass generates a custom AI video background from your hero image, which is hosted on Draftly's CDN and optimised for all devices. Read Draftly 3D Builder Motion Pass Guide for the full workflow.

Page Speed and Video

Embedded videos (YouTube, Vimeo) are loaded in an iframe from the third-party platform's servers. This means:

  • The video file itself does not affect your page weight
  • The iframe adds some JavaScript overhead from YouTube/Vimeo
  • Lazy loading (enabled by default in Draftly) minimises the performance impact
If page speed is a priority, consider using a video facade — a static thumbnail image with a play button that loads the actual video only when clicked. Draftly supports this pattern through the Video Placeholder media type.

SEO and Video

Embed your most important video with a descriptive title and transcript. Google can index video content and show it in search results as a rich result. For more on optimising all media for search, read Image and Media SEO Guide 2026.
