Google Business Profile and your website are an SEO pair — together they dominate local search. Here is how to connect them for maximum visibility.

How to Use Google Business Profile to Supercharge Your Website's Local SEO

GBP and Your Website: The Local SEO Pair

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) and your website are two sides of the same local SEO coin. GBP controls your presence in Google Maps and the local 3-pack. Your website controls your ranking in organic search results below the map. Together, they capture both entry points — and businesses that optimise both dominate their local search results.

Most Indian small businesses have one or the other, but not both — and rarely optimised together.

The Five GBP-to-Website Connections That Matter for SEO

1. NAP consistency. Your Name, Address, and Phone number must be identical across GBP and your website. Even minor variations (e.g., 'Rd' vs 'Road') create signals that confuse Google.

2. Website URL in GBP. Your GBP listing's website link should point to a specific location page if you have multiple locations, not just the homepage.

3. Keywords in GBP description. The keywords you use in your GBP business description should match the keywords you target on your website. Google uses this cross-reference as a consistency signal.

4. Schema markup on your website. Add LocalBusiness schema markup to your website matching your GBP data — name, address, phone, opening hours, coordinates. This is a direct signal to Google.

5. GBP posts linking to website content. GBP posts (weekly updates, offers, events) that link to specific website pages build click signals and content freshness signals simultaneously.

The Review and Rating Loop

GBP reviews directly influence website SEO through click-through rates. A business with 4.7 stars and 200 reviews in the Google Maps result gets more clicks than a business with a plain listing — and higher CTR is a ranking signal for both GBP and organic results.

Soliciting and responding to GBP reviews is as important as any on-page SEO tactic.
